Why Grooming is Important

​Regular grooming is essential for your dog's health and well-being.  Without proper care, your dogs coat loses its natural shine and can develop mats close to the skin which, is very painful and can lead to serious skin issues.   How often your dogs should be groomed depends on the breed (typically every 5-6 weeks) and how much maintenance is done between grooms.  Ask us for assistance on selecting the right tools and how to effectively maintain your dogs coat at home.

​Goochie Poochie uses environmentally friendly soaps and conditioners that will ensure your dog's coat is clean and shiny.  We do not use harsh chemicals or cage dryers that are commonly used by some of the big name groomers.  In addition to a clean, shiny coat, a thorough grooming will banish fleas and ticks, as well as other vermin that might be residing in your dog's coat. The care your dog will receive will make him/her feel pampered and special. You'll notice the difference right away in your dog's demeanour and appearance.

Independent Groomer vs. Chain stores

Many groomers employed by big chain stores seem to be either fresh out of school or still in training.  If you are lucky enough to find an experienced groomer, be even more concerned!  Most have learned to survive by focusing on speed and will often perform the same cut, regardless of the breed which, is why your special requests tend to fall on deaf ears.  Cage dryers and other short cuts are also frequently used to increase efficiency as your pet is pushed through the proverbial revolving door.  By their very nature and with few exceptions, chain stores are not inclined to deviate from their prescribed work flow formula.  That's how I started out in this business and it almost drove me to seek another profession. 

At goochie poochie, we are not burdened with high overhead costs, corporate greed or cutbacks.  All grooming appointments are made with enough time before and after to discuss your dog's needs.  We do not overlap or double book appointments as a means of increasing volume and we take as much time as needed to ensure your dog gets the perfect cut without the stress.  Your dog is unique and special, and that is how they should be treated.
